Welcome to Year 3
Summer Term in Year 3
Our theme this term is Belonging
The inspirational texts on our Summer bookshelf will inspire our learning across the curriculum.
Over the course of the Summer term, we will use the selected texts to produce a range of genres in our writing lesson: a book review, playscript, poem, character/setting description, narrative, biography, non-chronological report and a newspaper article. All of these pieces of work will link to belonging. We will be using the text to convey the different ways in which an individual can belong in a plethora of ways.
We will be starting with a text called ‘The Suitcase’, which is a short story about a creature who relocates and is initially met with conflict by the neighbouring animals but they grow to look out for each other and thus a sense of belonging. We will also be looking at ‘The Story of Tutankhamun’ to support our History curriculum along with our English curriculum.
In maths, we will be covering fractions, money, time, shape and statistics, whilst also calling upon previously taught arithmetic skills and methods to solve problems.
We will use what we know as well as discovering more about Ancient Egypt in our History lessons to answer the end question: Why is Ancient Egypt still talked about today?
In geography, we will answer the question: What does data tell us about Europe? This will draw on previous Geography units covering place, population and analysing data. Our work in Art over the term will see us explore Phillip Treacy and build up the previously taught skill of sculptures from Year 1.
